The Fish
How fresh are your fish?
Fish simply doesn’t get any fresher than premium Kühlbarra barramundi. We harvest to order, process and vacuum pack our cuts within hours. Shortly afterward, they are sent on their way to your doorstep by our delivery team.

Other “fresh” fish normally travels through a series of middlemen for 5 or 6 days before it even reaches the store, never mind your kitchen. Our model is different. We farm, process and deliver our fish right here in Singapore.

Where do your fish come from?
Our fish are ocean farmed in the Straits of Singapore, off the southern coast of the island. This location was selected for its oxygen-rich waters, strong currents and clean ecosystem. We often point to the thriving coral reef that lies just 200 metres away from our farm enclosures as an indication of the pristine condition of the waters.

The waters in which we have located our farm are independently sampled and tested every 10 minutes by the Danish Hydrological Institute, a trusted advisor to the Government of Singapore.
Are your fish farmed or caught wild?
We farm our fish in ocean waters because it is the best way to ensure they are produced in a completely sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. Farming also allows us to regulate exactly what our fish eat, keeping toxins out of their diets (and yours!).

Unfortunately, wild-caught fish are often harvested illegally from endangered species. These practices are having a devastating effect on dwindling fish stocks worldwide. Our goal is to be part of the solution with our sustainable approach to raising fish.
What do you feed your fish?
Premium Kühlbarra barramundi are only fed one thing—the highest quality fish food. It is certified to be sustainable and traceable. In fact, every single batch can be traced to the exact percentages of the various fish, plant proteins and naturally sourced oils included in the food.

The proteins come from sustainably sourced fish meal and a variety of plant proteins such as corn, canola, lupines and soybeans. The oils are sourced from cold-water fish such as salmon, ensuring our fish have high levels of healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6.

Our standards don’t allow us to feed our fish anything but the best diet. Better food equates to healthier and better-tasting fish.
Is barramundi a freshwater or saltwater fish?
The answer is yes. Just like salmon, barramundi can live in freshwater, brackish (semi-salty) water and saltwater.

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is superior to other barramundi because it is sourced from the best Australian brood stock and farmed in pure ocean waters. The result is a sweet clean flavour. Many “no-name” brands raise their barramundi in brackish and fresh waters which leads to a displeasing muddy flavour.
What does barramundi taste like?
Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is sweet and extremely clean tasting thanks to the care we take in raising them. It does not have the fishy or muddy tastes you may find in other brands.

The gorgeous white flesh is firm and well-suited to a wide variety cooking methods such as frying, steaming, broiling and baking. It is adaptable to a wide range of cuisines from Italian to Indian, Asian to French.
How do I cook barramundi?
We’re glad you asked! Kühlbarra premium barramundi is an extremely versatile fish, well-suited to a huge range of cuisines and cooking techniques. A number prominent chefs here in Singapore are big fans of our products and have provided us with a few exclusive delicious recipes.

Will my kids eat your fish?

Where does your salmon come from?
We purchase our salmon from a fish farm in Norway that shares our philosophy on growing healthy fish in a sustainable manner while protecting the environment and maintaining the highest standards of food safety.
Are your fish previously frozen?

Our fish is never previously frozen. You can safely freeze your fish after delivery. In fact, our vacuum packaging helps keeps them fresh and free from freezer burn.

Why is the option to buy whole-fish barramundi no longer available?
The demand for our products has grown substantially since launching Kühlbarra. To keep our farm sustainable and ensure we have plenty of our popular cut-fish products available in the future, we needed to allow our smaller barramundi to keep growing rather than harvesting them for whole-fish sales.
Are there bones in our Barramundi Portions & Fillets?

Our Barramundi Portions & Fillets are boneless, i.e. there are no pin bones. However, pieces that are nearer the head may contain a few bones and thus, we advise all customers to take extra care in checking for bones during consumption.

The Barramundi Broth & Chowder
Are there any artificial additives in the Barramundi Broth & Chowder?
They are made with 100% natural ingredients and do not contain any artificial preservatives or flavourings.
What are the ingredients used in the Barramundi Broth & Chowder?
Our Barramundi Broth is simmered to perfection using premium barramundi bones, onion, leek, celery, and a dash of salt & white pepper.

Our Barramundi Chowder is made with the nutritious Barramundi Broth and loaded with chunks of barramundi fish meat, potato, carrot, corn, and onion. Other ingredients include cooking cream, full cream milk powder, tapioca starch, butter, onion & garlic powder, salt and white pepper.
What can I use the Barramundi Broth for?
It can be used as a base for soups, steamboats and sauces, or as a substitute for any other types of broth in recipes.
Is the Barramundi Chowder ready-to-eat?
It is most definitely ready-to-eat! Simply transfer to a microwaveable container and heat it up in the microwave at medium setting for 3 – 5 minutes, or bring to a boil in a pot.

How long can I leave the Barramundi Broth & Chowder in the chiller?
They can be left in the chiller for at least 2 weeks after delivery (the expiry date will be printed on the bag). Alternatively, you can transfer them to your freezer and it will remain good for consumption for up to 6 months.
How many servings are in 1 packet of Barramundi Chowder?
Each packet contains 600ml of Barramundi Chowder and is good for 1 – 1.5 servings if served as a main course, and 2 servings if served as an entrée.
Orders & Deliveries
What will my order look like?
Your order will be delivered to your doorstep during the time slot of your choosing by a friendly Kühlbarra deliveryman. All products will arrive chilled and nestled in ice within a sealed and insulated box. Each piece of fish will additionally be vacuum-packed to preserve freshness and quality.

With Kühlbarra you’ll never have to worry about dripping shopping bags, fish “juices” or leaking packaging ever again!
How do I know that my order will arrive cold?
The Kühlbarra cold chain begins right on the boat and remains unbroken until it reaches you. In fact, it’s much fresher and safer than if you had bought it at the store and driven it home in the sweltering boot of your car.

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi are packed in ice immediately after being harvested from the ocean. Within hours, they are filleted in a cold room and vacuum packed to maintain that ocean-fresh flavour. Before leaving the cold room, our fillets are then packed on fresh ice in insulated containers. They are then shipped out to your home via the Kühlbarra delivery team.
How do you handle adverse weather and traffic conditions when making deliveries?
We are committed to getting your delivery to your door step exactly when you asked for it to arrive.

In cases of severe weather, however, we prioritise the safety of our delivery staff and are sometimes forced to suspend delivery services until the weather passes. In these instances, we inform our customers right away and do our best to reschedule any missed deliveries as soon as possible.

Although we will make every effort to avoid delays, extraordinary traffic conditions can slow down our delivery team. If we feel any of our deliveries will be late as a result of these slow downs, we alert our customers to any potential delays as soon as possible.
How long will my fish stay fresh?
The fact that our fish is vacuum packed and packed in ice immediately after being processed keeps them fresher for much longer. They will easily stay fresh in your fridge for up to a week after the delivery.
Why are my steaks and fillets different sizes?
Our fish are harvested at different weights ranging from 1.5 kg to more than 4 kg and they come in all shapes and sizes. While we try to keep our fillets as consistently sized as possible, a 200 g piece from a thick fillet will have different dimensions than a 200 g piece from a thinner fillet.
Why is the delivery time I want unavailable?
We currently offer deliveries on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in two-hour windows from 10 AM to 6 PM. We can only make a limited number of deliveries in each given window. When we have reached that number, we make it unavailable for any further deliveries.
Do you sell other types of fish?
Currently, we only sell premium Kühlbarra barramundi. We want to focus on perfecting our unique farm-to-fork model. We think the delicious flavour of our fish, its impeccable freshness and the convenience of our online order and delivery system will keep our customers happy until we can introduce other types of fish.
How do I change my delivery time?

We understand that things come up and schedules change. That’s why you can change your delivery time at any point up until 48 hours prior to your scheduled delivery. Simply email customerservice@kuhlbarra.com or call +65 6261 1110 to reschedule your delivery.

What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept online payments using Visa, MasterCard or PayPal.

Please note that while all of our transactions are processed by PayPal, you DO NOT need to have a PayPal account to complete your transaction.
Do you store my credit card information?
No. All of our purchase transactions are handled by PayPal, the world leader in secure online payments. PayPal will only store your credit card information if you authorise it to do so.
Do I have to be home to accept delivery?

While it doesn’t need to be you, someone must be home to accept our deliveries. We won’t leave your fresh fish out in the sun—those who have spent any time in Singapore’s hot tropical climate will understand.

If no one is home to accept delivery when our driver arrives, we will take your fish back to our facilities to be kept chilled. We will then attempt to arrange a second delivery for an additional delivery fee of $15.

Is barramundi healthy?
Well-known American doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz has declared barramundi to be one of “5 Super Foods to Eat Now.”

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is even more healthy than other “no-name” brands of barramundi. Thanks to our Australian brood stock, years of breeding and well-managed farming techniques, our fish are extremely high in heart-healthy, brain-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Does Kühlbarra barramundi have high levels of mercury or other contaminants?
No. Our fish are independently tested weekly by the Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore and always far exceed the strict EU standards for food-safety, including those related to all environmental toxins and contaminants.

Unlike wild predatory fish, which can consume smaller fish and build up high-concentrations of chemicals that have entered the aquatic food chains, premium Kühlbarra barramundi eat a strict diet of high-quality fish feed. The ingredients of this feed are thoroughly analysed and certified to meet all EU food safety regulations, the strictest regulations in the world.
Do Kühlbarra barramundi undergo any kinds of testing?
Absolutely. Our fish are rigorously tested by Agri-food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore throughout their lifecycle and at the time of processing into fillets.

In addition to our fish being tested, our farm facilities are subject to unannounced inspections by the Singapore government every three months.
Environment & Sustainability
Isn’t fish farming harmful to the environment?
Not the way we do it. Since our fish would be the first to suffer from poor water quality, we are obsessed with working in a sustainable manner that does not to pollute the environment our fish swim in.

At Kühlbarra, our fish enclosures are purposefully located in strong currents that disperse the fish waste to be naturally recycled by the ecosystem. The best evidence of the success of our environmentally sensitive approach can be seen in the delicate coral reef that thrives just 200 meters away from our farm.
Is Kühlbarra barramundi raised in a sustainable manner?
Yes. We take great pride in the fact that our fish are raised sustainably. We buy our fish feed from a manufacturer that is certified sustainable. And since we grow, harvest, process and deliver the fish right here in Singapore, it is also fully traceable.
