Our Fish

Are your fish farmed or caught wild?

We farm our fish in ocean waters because it is the best way to ensure they are produced in a completely sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. Farming also allows us to regulate exactly what our fish eat, keeping toxins out of their diets (and yours!).


Unfortunately, wild-caught fish are often harvested illegally from endangered species. These practices are having a devastating effect on dwindling fish stocks worldwide. Our goal is to be part of the solution with our sustainable approach to raising fish.
How do I cook barramundi?
We're glad you asked! Kühlbarra premium barramundi is an extremely versatile fish, well-suited to a huge range of cuisines and cooking techniques. A number of prominent chefs here in Singapore are big fans of our products and have provided us with a few exclusive delicious recipes
Is barrumundi a freshwater or saltwater fish?
Technically both. Barramundi are very robust and thrive both in high or low salinity waters.

Growing our barra in ocean waters allows us to have a product that is free from geosmin (that muddy / fishy taste) that is characteristic to pond-grown or freshwater fish.

Our broodstock come from the best Australian broodstock, and in Singapore, from our 20 year naturally-bred super barramundi breed. They are grown in ocean water, and are faster growing, firmer, cleaner tasting and higher in omega 3 (independently tested) than any other barramundi in the world.
What do you feed your fish?
"’You are what you eat." That applies to our barramundi as well. In order to grow the finest barramundi on the planet, we only use a specially formulated feed from one of Europe’s largest and oldest feed mills specialising in aquaculture feed and animal nutrition.

Our feeds are 100% traceable and BAP certified . Every ingredient comes from sources that are certified sustainable (including the fish oil and meal components that are MSC certified).

The composition of approximately 70% of plant proteins ensures that our fish are not just nutritious but also environmentally responsible.

Finally, we are what we eat. So a healthier, sustainable barra makes for a healthier and more sustainable you!
Will my kids eat your fish?

If your kids enjoy chicken, it’s a good bet that they’ll love premium Kühlbarra barramundi.

Our barramundi are perfect for fussy eaters because they have a clean fresh taste that’s not at all “fishy.” This makes it perfect for a wide variety of cooking preparations, from plain and simple to breaded and fried.

Where does your fish come from?
We farm our fish across the 3 countries we operate in (Australia, Singapore and Brunei), and we supply to customers all over the world.

In Singapore, we operate the largest aquaculture operations in the country and have 3 leases in the southern isles of Singapore. We are the only farm that operates in the south where the water Is highly oxygenated and fast moving, allowing for optimal conditions to grow healthy and fresh tasting barramundi.

In Australia, we operate in the remote and pristine, Kimberley (North Western Australia). We have grown to be the largest aquaculture company in all of the 3 countries we operate in, allowing us to be one of the largest suppliers of ocean grown barra in the world.
What does barramundi taste like?

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is sweet and extremely clean tasting thanks to the care we take in raising them. It does not have the fishy or muddy tastes you may find in other brands.

The gorgeous white flesh is firm and well-suited to a wide variety cooking methods such as frying, steaming, broiling and baking. It is adaptable to a wide range of cuisines from Italian to Indian, Asian to French.

Are there bones in our Barramundi Portions and Fillets?
While every effort is made to ensure bone removal, complete bone removal is not guaranteed. Please exercise caution as fish may still contain bone/bone fragments.

We advise all customers to take extra care in checking for bones during consumption.

Orders and Deliveries

How do you handle adverse weather and traffic conditions when making deliveries?
We are committed to getting your delivery to your door step exactly when you asked for it to arrive.

In cases of severe weather, however, we prioritise the safety of our delivery staff and are sometimes forced to suspend delivery services until the weather passes. In these instances, we will do our best to reschedule any missed deliveries as soon as possible.

Although we will make every effort to avoid delays, extraordinary traffic conditions can slow down our delivery team. If we feel any of our deliveries will be late as a result of these slow downs, our Kühl Delivery Team will alert our customers to any potential delays as soon as possible.

We seek your kind understanding during these events.
Do you sell other types of fish?
Currently, we only sell premium Kühlbarra barramundi. We want to focus on perfecting our unique farm-to-fork model. We think the delicious flavour of our fish, its impeccable freshness and the convenience of our online order and delivery system will keep our customers happy until we can introduce other types of fish.

However, we are definitely working on increasing the range of products we have on our site. Stay tuned for more!

Will Kühlbarra still leave my orders at my doorstep if no one is home?

While it doesn't need to be you, someeone must be home to accept your delivery. We won't leave your fresh fish out in the sun - those who have spent any time in Singapore's hot tropical climate will understand.

Based on food safety regulations, we strongly discourage you from leaving our products out in the open for extended periods of time. To maintain cold chain integrity, it is paramount that our products are transported immediately into your chiller/freezer once you receive it from our friendly kühl deliveryman. We will not be liable if our products are unfit for consumption if they are not kept in a temperature controlled environment.

This is why we require all customers to arrange for someone at home to receive your kühl package during your selected time slot.

If no one is home to accept your delivery within 5 minutes of our driver's arrival during the stipulated delivery time slot, we will take your fish back to our facilities to be kept chilled. We will then attempt to arrange a second delivery. All missed deliveries will incur an additional re-delivery fee of $15.

What will my order look like?
Your order will be delivered to your doorstep during the time slot of your choice by a friendly Kühlbarra deliveryman.

Sealed tightly, each piece of fish is also vacuum packed to preserve quality.

With Kühlbarra, you’ll never have to worry about dripping shopping bags, fish “juices” or leaking packaging ever again!
How long can i store my fish?
Our fish is vacuum-packed and packed in ice immediately after being processed and will easily stay fresh in your fridge for 5 days from the date of delivery.

You may also opt to keep them frozen up to 6 months from the date of delivery.
What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept payments via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Please note that all payments are handled by Stripe, a leader in secure online payments.

Can I reschedule my delivery?

As of 18 February 2023, delivery dates cannot be amended online and the delivery window period on the website has been shortened to 2 weeks. Please contact us via hello@kuhlbarra.com* or 6261 1110* should you require a change in the delivery date. 

 

Please note that for any changes within 2 working days before and on the delivery date itself, will require a redelivery and admin fee of $15
(e.g. If your delivery date falls on a Thursday, any request made on Tuesday or Wednesday will require an additional fee of $15. If your delivery date falls on a Monday, any request made on Thursday or Friday will require an additional fee of $15.) 

 

Please also note that any change in delivery slot is subject to availability, and is dependent on the current location of our delivery partner and the route planned for them. We apologise in advance if we are unable to assist with your request.

Why is Kühlbarra no longer using kühl boxes to deliver fish to my doorstep?

Over the years, our consumer needs have changed drastically especially with the Covid-19 pandemic. As we order more fresh groceries and temperature sensitive produce online, this has created an increased amount of waste packaging.

We take your feedback seriously about the restrictions that come with returning and recycling our previous kühl boxes and have decided to switch to a green, more compact alternative.

Our kühl insulated thermal bags are made up of 30% recycled material and are much easier to flatten and store. Rest assured that independent temperature tests have been conducted to ensure these bags maintain a kühl temperature all the way from delivery to your doorstep. A cold truck is used to deliver all kühl packages to ensure that the cold chain remains unbroken.

Why is the delivery time I want unavailable?
We currently offer daily deliveries in three-hour windows from 9 AM to 8 PM, except on Sundays. We can only make a limited number of deliveries in each given window.
Do you store my credit card information?

No. All of our purchase transactions are handled by Stripe, a leader in secure online payments. Stripe will only store your credit card information if you authorise it to do so.

What happens if I want to reschedule my order on the date of the delivery, to other dates?

For any cancellation or rescheduling request made on the delivery date itself, you shall remain liable for the full price of the order regardless of the delivery status. You will not be offered a refund and/or exchange of any kind.

 

We regret to inform you that in the event you are unable to receive your delivery on the scheduled date, Kühlbarra reserves the right to charge a delivery fee if minimum spend for free delivery is not met, in addition to the cost of the fresh/frozen products in your order should you request for a redelivery on another date.

 

As we are dealing with temperature sensitive products, we hold food safety regulations and product handling processes strictly and thus, products which have been packed for delivery will be disposed of if undelivered.

 

Please help us to minimise food wastage by only scheduling your deliveries on days where you are sure that you or someone else will be home to receive the order!

 

In the event where you are unable to receive your delivery, and would like us to drop it off with your neighbour, do give our delivery partner a heads up.

Will the quality of our orders be affected without the kühl box?

Rest assured that the quality of your kühl orders will not be affected as your deliveries are transported in a temperature controlled cold truck.

Our cold trucks are designed to be fully equipped with a cooling system to keep your orders kühl, and are well insulated to maintain internal temperature from 0 - 4 degrees celcius.

As such, the cold chain remains unbroken from the time our fish are harvested, and till it reaches your doorstep.

Health

Is barramundi healthy?

Well-known American doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz has declared barramundi to be one of “5 Super Foods to Eat Now”.

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is even more healthy than other “no-name” brands of barramundi. Thanks to our Australian brood stock, years of breeding and well-managed farming techniques, our fish are extremely high in heart-healthy, brain-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Does Kühlbarra barramundi have high levels of mercury or other contaminants?
No. Our fish are independently tested free from antibiotics and growth hormones and are safe from mercury. This is why our fish is even served in private hospitals like Thomson Medical.
Do Kühlbarra barramundi undergo any kinds of testing?
Absolutely. Our fish are rigorously tested by laboratories to ensure that they are safe for consumption. We strictly adhere to Singapore Food Agency’s Food Safety Regulatory Limits.

In addition to our fish being tested, our farm facilities are subject to unannounced inspections by the Singapore government.

Environment and Sustainability

Isn't fish farming harmful to the environment?

Not the way we do it. Since our fish would be the first to suffer from poor water quality, we are obsessed with working in a sustainable manner that does not pollute the very environment our fish swim in.

At Kühlbarra, our fish enclosures are purposefully located in strong currents that disperse fish waste, allowing it to be naturally recycled by the surrounding ecosystem. The best evidence of the success of our environmentally-sensitive approach can be seen in the delicate coral reef that thrives just 200 meters away from our farm.

Is Kühlbarra barramundi raised in a sustainable manner?
Yes. We take great pride in the fact that our fish are raised sustainably. We buy our fish feed from a manufacturer that is certified sustainable. And since we grow, harvest, process and deliver the fish right here ourselves, it is also fully traceable.

Are your fish farmed or caught wild?

We farm our fish in ocean waters because it is the best way to ensure they are produced in a completely sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. Farming also allows us to regulate exactly what our fish eat, keeping toxins out of their diets (and yours!).


Unfortunately, wild-caught fish are often harvested illegally from endangered species. These practices are having a devastating effect on dwindling fish stocks worldwide. Our goal is to be part of the solution with our sustainable approach to raising fish.
What do you feed your fish?
"’You are what you eat." That applies to our barramundi as well. In order to grow the finest barramundi on the planet, we only use a specially formulated feed from one of Europe’s largest and oldest feed mills specialising in aquaculture feed and animal nutrition.

Our feeds are 100% traceable and BAP certified . Every ingredient comes from sources that are certified sustainable (including the fish oil and meal components that are MSC certified).

The composition of approximately 70% of plant proteins ensures that our fish are not just nutritious but also environmentally responsible.

Finally, we are what we eat. So a healthier, sustainable barra makes for a healthier and more sustainable you!
What does barramundi taste like?

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is sweet and extremely clean tasting thanks to the care we take in raising them. It does not have the fishy or muddy tastes you may find in other brands.

The gorgeous white flesh is firm and well-suited to a wide variety cooking methods such as frying, steaming, broiling and baking. It is adaptable to a wide range of cuisines from Italian to Indian, Asian to French.

How do I cook barramundi?
We're glad you asked! Kühlbarra premium barramundi is an extremely versatile fish, well-suited to a huge range of cuisines and cooking techniques. A number of prominent chefs here in Singapore are big fans of our products and have provided us with a few exclusive delicious recipes
Will my kids eat your fish?

If your kids enjoy chicken, it’s a good bet that they’ll love premium Kühlbarra barramundi.

Our barramundi are perfect for fussy eaters because they have a clean fresh taste that’s not at all “fishy.” This makes it perfect for a wide variety of cooking preparations, from plain and simple to breaded and fried.

Are there bones in our Barramundi Portions and Fillets?
While every effort is made to ensure bone removal, complete bone removal is not guaranteed. Please exercise caution as fish may still contain bone/bone fragments.

We advise all customers to take extra care in checking for bones during consumption.
Is barrumundi a freshwater or saltwater fish?
Technically both. Barramundi are very robust and thrive both in high or low salinity waters.

Growing our barra in ocean waters allows us to have a product that is free from geosmin (that muddy / fishy taste) that is characteristic to pond-grown or freshwater fish.

Our broodstock come from the best Australian broodstock, and in Singapore, from our 20 year naturally-bred super barramundi breed. They are grown in ocean water, and are faster growing, firmer, cleaner tasting and higher in omega 3 (independently tested) than any other barramundi in the world.
Where does your fish come from?
We farm our fish across the 3 countries we operate in (Australia, Singapore and Brunei), and we supply to customers all over the world.

In Singapore, we operate the largest aquaculture operations in the country and have 3 leases in the southern isles of Singapore. We are the only farm that operates in the south where the water Is highly oxygenated and fast moving, allowing for optimal conditions to grow healthy and fresh tasting barramundi.

In Australia, we operate in the remote and pristine, Kimberley (North Western Australia). We have grown to be the largest aquaculture company in all of the 3 countries we operate in, allowing us to be one of the largest suppliers of ocean grown barra in the world.

Orders and Deliveries

How do you handle adverse weather and traffic conditions when making deliveries?
We are committed to getting your delivery to your door step exactly when you asked for it to arrive.

In cases of severe weather, however, we prioritise the safety of our delivery staff and are sometimes forced to suspend delivery services until the weather passes. In these instances, we will do our best to reschedule any missed deliveries as soon as possible.

Although we will make every effort to avoid delays, extraordinary traffic conditions can slow down our delivery team. If we feel any of our deliveries will be late as a result of these slow downs, our Kühl Delivery Team will alert our customers to any potential delays as soon as possible.

We seek your kind understanding during these events.
How long can i store my fish?
Our fish is vacuum-packed and packed in ice immediately after being processed and will easily stay fresh in your fridge for 5 days from the date of delivery.

You may also opt to keep them frozen up to 6 months from the date of delivery.
Why is the delivery time I want unavailable?
We currently offer daily deliveries in three-hour windows from 9 AM to 8 PM, except on Sundays. We can only make a limited number of deliveries in each given window.
Do you sell other types of fish?
Currently, we only sell premium Kühlbarra barramundi. We want to focus on perfecting our unique farm-to-fork model. We think the delicious flavour of our fish, its impeccable freshness and the convenience of our online order and delivery system will keep our customers happy until we can introduce other types of fish.

However, we are definitely working on increasing the range of products we have on our site. Stay tuned for more!
What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept payments via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Please note that all payments are handled by Stripe, a leader in secure online payments.

Do you store my credit card information?

No. All of our purchase transactions are handled by Stripe, a leader in secure online payments. Stripe will only store your credit card information if you authorise it to do so.

Can I reschedule my delivery?

As of 18 February 2023, delivery dates cannot be amended online and the delivery window period on the website has been shortened to 2 weeks. Please contact us via hello@kuhlbarra.com* or 6261 1110* should you require a change in the delivery date. 

 

Please note that for any changes within 2 working days before and on the delivery date itself, will require a redelivery and admin fee of $15
(e.g. If your delivery date falls on a Thursday, any request made on Tuesday or Wednesday will require an additional fee of $15. If your delivery date falls on a Monday, any request made on Thursday or Friday will require an additional fee of $15.) 

 

Please also note that any change in delivery slot is subject to availability, and is dependent on the current location of our delivery partner and the route planned for them. We apologise in advance if we are unable to assist with your request.

What happens if I want to reschedule my order on the date of the delivery, to other dates?

For any cancellation or rescheduling request made on the delivery date itself, you shall remain liable for the full price of the order regardless of the delivery status. You will not be offered a refund and/or exchange of any kind.

 

We regret to inform you that in the event you are unable to receive your delivery on the scheduled date, Kühlbarra reserves the right to charge a delivery fee if minimum spend for free delivery is not met, in addition to the cost of the fresh/frozen products in your order should you request for a redelivery on another date.

 

As we are dealing with temperature sensitive products, we hold food safety regulations and product handling processes strictly and thus, products which have been packed for delivery will be disposed of if undelivered.

 

Please help us to minimise food wastage by only scheduling your deliveries on days where you are sure that you or someone else will be home to receive the order!

 

In the event where you are unable to receive your delivery, and would like us to drop it off with your neighbour, do give our delivery partner a heads up.

Will Kühlbarra still leave my orders at my doorstep if no one is home?

While it doesn't need to be you, someeone must be home to accept your delivery. We won't leave your fresh fish out in the sun - those who have spent any time in Singapore's hot tropical climate will understand.

Based on food safety regulations, we strongly discourage you from leaving our products out in the open for extended periods of time. To maintain cold chain integrity, it is paramount that our products are transported immediately into your chiller/freezer once you receive it from our friendly kühl deliveryman. We will not be liable if our products are unfit for consumption if they are not kept in a temperature controlled environment.

This is why we require all customers to arrange for someone at home to receive your kühl package during your selected time slot.

If no one is home to accept your delivery within 5 minutes of our driver's arrival during the stipulated delivery time slot, we will take your fish back to our facilities to be kept chilled. We will then attempt to arrange a second delivery. All missed deliveries will incur an additional re-delivery fee of $15.

Why is Kühlbarra no longer using kühl boxes to deliver fish to my doorstep?

Over the years, our consumer needs have changed drastically especially with the Covid-19 pandemic. As we order more fresh groceries and temperature sensitive produce online, this has created an increased amount of waste packaging.

We take your feedback seriously about the restrictions that come with returning and recycling our previous kühl boxes and have decided to switch to a green, more compact alternative.

Our kühl insulated thermal bags are made up of 30% recycled material and are much easier to flatten and store. Rest assured that independent temperature tests have been conducted to ensure these bags maintain a kühl temperature all the way from delivery to your doorstep. A cold truck is used to deliver all kühl packages to ensure that the cold chain remains unbroken.

Will the quality of our orders be affected without the kühl box?

Rest assured that the quality of your kühl orders will not be affected as your deliveries are transported in a temperature controlled cold truck.

Our cold trucks are designed to be fully equipped with a cooling system to keep your orders kühl, and are well insulated to maintain internal temperature from 0 - 4 degrees celcius.

As such, the cold chain remains unbroken from the time our fish are harvested, and till it reaches your doorstep.

What will my order look like?
Your order will be delivered to your doorstep during the time slot of your choice by a friendly Kühlbarra deliveryman.

Sealed tightly, each piece of fish is also vacuum packed to preserve quality.

With Kühlbarra, you’ll never have to worry about dripping shopping bags, fish “juices” or leaking packaging ever again!

Health

Is barramundi healthy?

Well-known American doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz has declared barramundi to be one of “5 Super Foods to Eat Now”.

Premium Kühlbarra barramundi is even more healthy than other “no-name” brands of barramundi. Thanks to our Australian brood stock, years of breeding and well-managed farming techniques, our fish are extremely high in heart-healthy, brain-boosting omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Do Kühlbarra barramundi undergo any kinds of testing?
Absolutely. Our fish are rigorously tested by laboratories to ensure that they are safe for consumption. We strictly adhere to Singapore Food Agency’s Food Safety Regulatory Limits.

In addition to our fish being tested, our farm facilities are subject to unannounced inspections by the Singapore government.
Does Kühlbarra barramundi have high levels of mercury or other contaminants?
No. Our fish are independently tested free from antibiotics and growth hormones and are safe from mercury. This is why our fish is even served in private hospitals like Thomson Medical.

Environment and Sustainability

Isn't fish farming harmful to the environment?

Not the way we do it. Since our fish would be the first to suffer from poor water quality, we are obsessed with working in a sustainable manner that does not pollute the very environment our fish swim in.

At Kühlbarra, our fish enclosures are purposefully located in strong currents that disperse fish waste, allowing it to be naturally recycled by the surrounding ecosystem. The best evidence of the success of our environmentally-sensitive approach can be seen in the delicate coral reef that thrives just 200 meters away from our farm.
